Originally ‘Risedale Villas’ built in 1888, Risedale Nursing & Residential Home is situated in private gardens approximately one and a half miles from the centre of Barrow-in-Furness. The home has been totally refurbished to a very high standard to ensure that clients, their families and friends receive the best possible service.

Good wheelchair access is provided to the gardens and patio areas where clients and their relatives can relax and enjoy the scenery.

Many hotels would wish they had such good food preparation facilities. An extensive varied and nutritious menu is offered in the dining room. Clients’ personal preferences and dietary requirements are always taken into account and menus offer a wide choice at every meal.

Residential clients are designated a Key Carer – a member of staff who will get to know them personally and will support them and their family. Key Carers receive on-going training and development to ensure they continually update their skills.  The home trains Assistant Practitioners in conjunction with The University of Cumbria, who achieve a foundation degree. In addition the company trains Registered Nurses with the Open University. Nursing clients will have a named nurse.

The personal services available to clients are extensive – from the key carer and named nurse system through to hairdressing and chiropody. Such services are in addition to personal professional services each client may retain as they wish, for example, general practitioner, dentist, solicitor, accountant and investment advisor. District nurses visit residential clients daily, as required, and there is also access to a counsellor, community physio, OT’s and community pharmacy who provide support, guidance, advice and audit.  Residents have the privacy to consult visiting professionals at their home whenever they wish.

Social activities are an important feature. A wide range of entertainment is available to all clients, if they so wish, and is tailored to suit their individual interests and abilities. Friends and family are always welcome to join in.

The home has two full time Social Activity Coordinators.

The home has three distinct units:

The Abbey Unit (24 Beds/downstairs)
