Aldingham

Aldingham has developed into a service which can provide both physical and mental health nursing support.

The unit is extremely experienced in providing complex nursing care and has developed skills in caring for clients with dementia. In order to ensure that clients displaying both needs receive appropriate care, support and treatment; we have experienced mental health nurses who assesses, plans, implement and evaluate the mental health needs of each client and registered general nurses on duty to ensure the nursing care needs are also met.

Risedale Estates Limited train, in conjunction with the University of Cumbria, Assistant Practitioners.

We have introduced Assistant Practitioners into every shift to support the role of the Registered Nurses. Several of these practitioners are undertaking a mental health pathway.

Set in a very small hamlet on the beautiful Northern shore of Morecambe Bay, yet ten minutes ride along the Coast Road to the ancient market town of Ulverston.

Aldingham is a handsome mansion with a fascinating history. Built by a learned, wealthy and benevolent cleric, the Rev. Dr John Stonard, tutor for some time of William Pitt, who later became Prime Minister.

Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort, visited Rev Stonard in his new home and carvings commemorating this event still grace the entrance porch.

Aldingham accommodates clients, who require both Dementia and general nursing, offering en suite facilities in all bedrooms.

This fine Grade II listed building has three spacious lounge/dining areas, a beautiful conservatory and several cosy sitting areas, all decorated and furnished to an extremely high standard.

An extensive, varied and nutritious menu is cooked on site.  Clients’ personal preferences and dietary requirements are always taken into account and menus offer a choice at every meal.

Clients’ personal preferences and dietary requirements are always taken into account and menus offer a wide choice at every meal.

Two modern passenger lifts connect the three floors. The patios and extensive gardens and seaside location are just some of Aldingham’s greatest attributes.

All bathrooms have specialised baths installed and the most sophisticated lifting equipment makes taking a bath an easy, safe and convenient pleasure.

Clients are designated a Primary Nurse – a member of staff who will get to know them personally and will support them and their family.

Staff are highly motivated and specially qualified for their responsibilities and a continuous programme for updating nursing qualifications provides further Assurance of Quality of Service.

Risedale have a Gold Standard Framework trained link Registered Nurse who can be used by the home for advice for end of life care.

Risedale at Aldingham St Cuthbert’s

Set in the small hamlet of Aldingham, on the beautiful Northern shore of Morecambe Bay, ten minutes ride along the Coast Road to the ancient market town of Ulverston, St. Cuthbert’s Unit is set within its own extensive, mature grounds and is part of Aldingham Nursing Home.

St Cuthbert’s is a purpose built and specifically designed for people experiencing dementia; it has wide, bright corridors and all the rooms are on one level.

The home utilises the Stirling University Design for people with Dementia Audit Tool, whereby colour contrast, use of lighting and space, is utilised and tailored specifically for people experiencing dementia, in order to promote dignity, independence and enhance their quality of life.

St Cuthbert’s is further divided into two units:

Bluebell Unit – this unit specifically cares for ambulant clients with dementia and is spacious with access to secure garden areas to allow residents to walk freely without feeling restricted.

Daffodil Unit – this unit cares for clients who in addition to having dementia require additional support for general nursing needs.

Each Unit has a delightful lounge/dining room, which overlook, and lead to, the enclosed patio gardens. There are also two smaller lounges which provide more intimate surroundings, perfect for family visits or quiet times.

An extensive, varied and nutritious menu is offered, catering for personal preferences and dietary requirements for clients of varying abilities. We aim to provide relaxed and unrushed mealtimes, maintaining independence and choice.

All bathrooms have specialised baths installed and the most sophisticated lifting equipment makes taking a bath an easy, safe and convenient pleasure.

Staff are highly motivated and specially qualified for their responsibilities and a continuous programme for updating nursing qualifications provides further assurance of Quality of Service.

We have a dedicated Activity Organiser who offers a wide range of social activities, and entertainment for our residents, which are tailored to suit both individual interests and abilities. Their role also endeavours to promote strong links between friends, families and the community with the unit, to enhance the quality of care provided, and make what can be a difficult time, a little easier.

Risedale have a Gold Standard Framework trained link Registered Nurse who can be used by the home for advice on end of life care.
